Summary:
Lady Katsa is Graced with the power to kill. Though she hates working for her cruel uncle the king, she doesn’t feel she has any choice—until she meets the Leinid prince Poe, whom she discovers to be her equal in sparring. When Poe convinces her to help him investigates a set of mysterious occurrences connected to a suspiciously beloved distant King, Katsa finally finds the courage to break free from her cycle of thoughtless murder and make a difference in her world.

Thoughts:
I love Gareth Hinds as an author and illustrator—the Odyssey has my heart— but I really did not like this adaptation. The art was good, and Hinds did an excellent job compacting the story in a way that made sense, but the adaptation was entirely lacking Katsa’s pragmatic narration. When reading the original book, I loved the narrative voice; it was what made the story so compelling. So although the adaptation was logistically well done, I didn’t find it particularly enjoyable to read.
