Summary:
It's been nine years since Emmy Harlow has been home to her small magical town of Thistle Grove. Though when she left she told her family she simply couldn't stand to be trapped, by a small town and a bloodline with less magic than tose of the town's other founding fathers.
But she wasn't telling the whole truth--a messy breakup with a terrible ex had a larger role in her escape than she was willing to admit. When Emmy returns to Thistle Grove to participate in an age-old ritual to determine to whom the town's power will pass, she finds herself reminded of just how much of Thistle Grove she loved--from her cozy family to the magic in her bones to the best friend and suspiciously hot acquaintance both determined to take down the man who chased Emmy out of Thistle Grove in the first place.

Thoughts:
This was a very cute, light-hearted, and witchy book. If the characters hadn't been sex-having adults, I would be tempted to categorize it as young adult. The protagonist was pretty projectable, but her relationships with other characters were interesting, and the town was aesthetic and pretty flushed out. The magic system was also fun, as was the romance--Talia, the love interest, was definitely the most fun character in the book. I wouldn't recommend this to anyone not simply looking for a light for-fun read, but I don't regret the few hours I gave to its escapism.
