Summary:
Visiting the foreign nation of Nihon-Ja, Horace becomes involved in the war for sovereignty between the rightful emperor Shigeru, and the entitled classist warrior Arisaka. Concerned for their friend, Will, Halt, Alyss and Evanlyn recruit a ship of Skandians to take them to Nihon-Ja so they can help their friend return the nation to prosperity under its rightful ruler.
Thoughts:
I will forever love this book. Everyone is together! They come up with a plan! It's really endlessly fun and satisfying to read. The sexism is intense, especially in the situation with Alyss and Evanlyn fighting out of jealousy over a man. But aside from that, the competence of everyone in this book is glorious. Not the most feminist thing for me to say, but I firmly believe the book is worth it.
