This article examines the interplay of gender, sexuality, race, and growth in Louisa May Alcott's novel Jack and Jill.

Thoughts:
This was so much fun to read! I've gotten very entrenched in the AP Lit five-paragraph essay, so it was cool to read such an extensive analysis. My favorite quote was "The girl reader of Jack and Jill, then, is learning not only about ambivalent lessons about femininity, but also important information about the interconnectedness of whiteness, femininity, and gentlewomanliness in this fantasy of American womanhood" (389).
