Summary:
Despite the dreamlike quality of their time at Thornchapel, life is not perfect for anyone in the group. Delphine and Rebecca's relationship is terrifyingly undefined. Father Becket needs to be more careful in hiding things from his parish than he wishes to. Auden and St. Sebastian's relationship is more complex than they ever could have known. And the gate at the alter is opening--slowly, inexorably opening, the doorway between worlds becoming larger and stronger. Even as the group descends further into turmoil, they all know that soon they will have to do the rite, make the sacrifice, protect their world from the other one.

Thoughts:
Every time I think Sierra Simone can't surprise me, she does again. I normally don't feel this way about flat-out romance, but her work is so impressive. The magic is interesting, the writing gorgeous, the characters fascinating, their relationships compelling. Through romance, Simone explores the human condition to a degree that surprises me. And this book is one of the best of hers I've read so far. Delphine and Rebecca's relationship was especially fascinating to me, and I'm super interested to see how the book will play out. Because there are so many characters, with none of them more "main" than the others, it's genuinely hard to know how the series will end. I'm extremely excited to read the final book and see how everything turns out.
