Inside Scientology by Janet Reitman

The Assassin's Blade by Sarah J. Mass (Throne of Glass # 0.5)

Young Adult. Romance. Fantasy. Murder. Badass Protagonist. Loss.

I re-read this at the wrong point ( I should have done it before Queen of Shadows, not after) but oh well.

Summary:
Celaena Sardothien has been Arobyn Hamel's trusted protegee for eight years--and has trusted him in return. But when he sends her to finalize a slave-trade agreement for him, she is forced to reassess her relationship with him. As she begins to trust Arobyn less and her rival Sam more, Celaena must decide where to draw the line. In this tragic yet hopeful collection of novellas, the life and loss of the Celaena before Endovier are explored.

Thoughts:
This book holds such a dear place in my heart. It's the first young adult assassin fantasy novel I ever read--I got it from the library the summer after fifth grade, and spend literally years looking for other books that matched its badassery and danger. Being a TOG fan really was a long time coming for me. Even from the perspective of a much older reader, this book is still excellent. As much as I like the character growth in the TOG series, I really do prefer Celaena to Aelin---she's just a more ruthless and fun character. So this collection of novellas is perfect. It shows Celaena as she develops her assassin morals, but also shows her in all of her talented-but-also-constantly-improving glory. It hurts a little to read, because she's so young and we all know how the stories end, but this is still an excellent book to read either as a standalone or as a supplement to the rest of the series.
