Summary:
Ramona bursts with life and confidence, and plays both the piano and the drums with that same passion. She decides that a restaurant is going to be her special restaurant before ever stepping inside. To her, the worst thing a person can be is a poseur. Except she's hopelessly in love with Sam, her best friend and bandmate, but can't seem to do anything about it.
Sam is quiet, calm, the rock to Ramona's chaotic energy. And he loves her. More than anything. When he is ready to speak, she listens with her whole self. She's his best friend, and he's too afraid of ruining their friendship to tell her how he feels.
Then they meet Tom, activist and "chaos maker," who rounds out their band to perfection. He just clicks with them. Then Ramona and Tom begin dating. Except Tom is asexual. And Ramona is still, in addition to Tom, into Sam. The three must search for the way to be their most genuine selves, without losing each other.

Thoughts:
This book was not what I was expecting, but I liked it more that I expected to after realizing that fact ...? I don't know. It was good. At first I thought Ramona was going to be way to demanding and overbearing but the way that Sam loved her with everything he had made her confidence feel like a blessing rather than something to make a mess of things, and the communication and understanding between the characters throughout the book was incredible.
Tom's asexuality was portrayed in a bit of a weird way, and the word "asexual" was never mentioned, but the way in which it was handled by the characters was really nice. And the love. It sounds cheesy as hell, but the way that the three characters gave and received such utter, unbridled love was really nice to read.
The writing was pretty nice, and had some artistic quirks, specifically with parentheses, that gave it a real personality, which I always like. There were some quotes that reminded me of IGYTS, so of course I needed to grab them:
"My chest feels good like suddenly my lungs have more room.
"Sometimes the whole world seems like this big machine churning people out, making everyone into the sort of person they're expected to be. It scares me."
"We just can't keep our feet on the ground; we just have to fly."
I might want to re-read this book someday, and I will try to get the other book written by the author. This book was a quick, sweet, lovely read that was really just what I needed today.
