Summary:
Sophie and her friends have decided that it's time to go join the Black Swan and finally help, like they were meant to. But just as they begin to make progress learning about the Neverseen, the opposing rebel group that has done so much damage, a new threat emerges: a deadly plague, that kills forests and makes Gnomes extremely sick, has been released. What's worse, is that the Ogres are involved. With help from the Black Swan, Sophie and her friends must work to stop the plague, save the Gnomes, and manage to not die in the process.

Thoughts:
This one is definitely my favorite so far. There is less sneaking around and lying and getting caught and doing stupid stuff, which makes me happy bc main character idiocy is not cute in my opinion. I also like how much more capable all the characters are getting, as well as the fact that they're getting a little older and a little more mature. Note: We have our first protagonists of color! It's not specifically said, but I think the two new kids introduced are supposed to be Asian. I'm not really sure how that works with the they're-part-of-a-different-species thing, but at least not all of the main characters are white now. Back on track, I love the fact that the characters get more hardcore training, with the Black Swan and at the intense school they go to. I also definitely enjoy the fact that all of the action and other characters revolve around Sophie. I don't usually like the chosen one trope because it means a reluctant hero, but here it just means that the main character is more powerful than everyone else, and that's pretty cool. It'll be nice to see where the plot ends up going in future books, but mostly I'm excited to see what new relationships and character development happen as the series progresses.
