Summary:
Alessandra wants wealth, and power. So she has a plan: to marry the Shadow King, then kill him, and rule the kingdom in his stead. She knows she can do it. She did kill the first and only man who broke her heart, after all, no problem. But as Alessandra gets closer to the king, as they start to form a tenuous alliance, she is forced to spend more and more effort on saving the King from assassination attempts. He does need to die, but not before she's married him.

Thoughts:
This was a very solid book. The world building was vague and not particularly ambitious, and the plot, especially nearing the end, was disappointingly predictable, but the main character being probably a psychopath, and definitely morally grey, was super fun. She did spend more time being worried about people than I wanted her to. (She kind of got less evil. Sad.) but she was still ruthless about killing people and making bloody, hard choices. Her schemes were excellent. The Shadow King was extremely generic: pretty boy with black hair and shadows and a tragic past. But he wasn't too bad, and I liked how bloodthirsty he was. He and Alessandra were a good match.
Overall, I wouldn't recommend this book to anyone, but I have no regrets about reading it.
