Summary: Neil Josten has been on the run from his abusive criminal father for eight years, not once looking back. But after the death of his mother, he can't stop himself from accepting an offer to play collegiate exy for, a sport similar to lacrosse but with the violence of ice hockey and played on a court the size of a soccer field, for the Palmetto State Foxes, a team of people who need second chances. Though Neil knows that having his face on national television — as well as playing with and against people from his past — is the last thing he should be doing, he can't say no to the prospect of playing the game he loves, even if he can't stay for long.

Thoughs: Even though this is my least favorite book in the AFTG series because the found family trope isn't in full effect yet (thanks, Seth,) I still love this book to pieces. Knowing how the series ends makes rereads so fun, especially Andrew and Neil's relationship. There are some funny typos in the book ("storey" instead of "story" when talking about a building, etc.) and the writing isn't the cleanest or most artistic, and the choices characters make are sometimes very illogical, but the characters. The characters are so. Good. They are all morally grey, flawed people but when they finally do get along, even for a few minutes, it feels amazing because since we as readers know how difficult it is for any of them to get along, their working together feels even more victorious. This book may be inferior to the other two in the series, but still: God is it good.

Notes: My friend recommended this to me a few months ago, and I read the whole trilogy twice in a month and a half. I finally purchased the books (ahhh!!) so now I get to have them on my shelf to love.
